Animal Nutrition
Synopsis
Farm animal fodder generally consists of plants and plant products, though limited amounts of animal-based foods such as milk and fishmeal are used. Animals depend on plants for their existence. Hence the study of animal nutrition necessitates the need to begin by studying the plant itself. Reviewing the nutritional elements needed by animals, ways to provide them in their food, and how they can benefit from it. This represents qualitative nutrition, which was discussed in the first ten chapters. The remaining thirteen chapters are concerned with quantitative nutrition, which is the evaluation of the quantities of nutritional elements provided by food and the quantities required by different types of agricultural animals. The book contains appendices which provide tables showing the chemical components of food and nutritional standards for agricultural animals, which are considered important tools for the student, researcher, and farmer alike, especially when this data is needed in evaluating foods and formulating fodder. This book also contains several references at the end of each chapter that may benefit readers and provide them with a guide to any additional information they may seek to learn in detail.
