Cognitive Failures and Academic Achievement among Students of the College of Education

Abstract

       This study aimed to identify the relationship between the level of cognitive failures and academic achievement among students of the College of Education, Omar Al-Mukhtar University, and the sample consisted of (284) male and female students. The study reached to the following results: The high level of cognitive failure among students of the College of Education, compared to the hypothetical mean of the scale, the study tool. There is a statistically significant inverse correlation at the level of significance (0.000) between the cognitive failures of the study sample and their academic achievement; That is, the higher the cognitive failures, the lower the level of academic achievement, and vice versa. There are statistically significant differences between the scores of males and females of the study sample in the performance on the cognitive failures questionnaire, and these differences are in favor of the average scores of males; That is, males are lower in the level of cognitive failures compared to females as a group. There are statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the average scores of the first-year students and the average scores of the fourth-year students in the performance on the cognitive failures questionnaire, in favor of the average scores of the fourth-year students; That is, fourth-year students are lower in the level of cognitive failures.
